You're probably wondering, why on earth would you like to have a photoshoot during the coldest months? It's chilly and also gloomy. All you want to do is just huddle in the warmth of your home.
Well, there are actually a lot of very interesting points as to why this time of year is better. The sunlight is more forgiving as there won't be any harsh shadows which makes it great for your skin tone. The sun will also going to take longer to set so if you want to make the most of a sunset and it's beautiful light, then winter is the time to do it.
We had the chance to chat with Sally from Oak & Ivy Photography who is a professional wedding photographer in New South Wales and she kindly shared with us several useful tips for those looking to have a winter photoshoot.
1. Choose a location that has some wet weather options!
"If you’re opting for outdoors, consider a place that has some undercover areas or trees, or bring a nice umbrella! (Or find a photographer that will bring one for you :p). Another alternative is doing a cosy indoor session!"
The chance of a downpour is high during the winter but that doesn't mean you need to stop the photoshoot right away. The drizzle can add some magical effect to your photos and not to mention, all that steamy romantic mood.
2. Rug up!
"Clothes are one of the things I find couples get most stressed about during winter. Dress for the season and wear what you feel comfortable in and I promise it will look amazing! Incorporating a blanket into the shoot always works amazing as well and makes the two of you look super cute all wrapped up together."
3. Embrace the season and the adventure
"Whatever that may entail! Weather in winter can be unpredictable but if you go in with a positive attitude ready to embrace the day whatever happens it will always be more fun and memorable.
I once did a couples shoot in near freezing weather - we were in a paddock and it started raining and got reallyyy muddy. The couple totally embraced it dancing and having fun in the rain and to this day they are some of my favourite photos and the memories we had making them are so special."
